pro vox populi, vox dei...vox populi secundus tantum vox dei.-JGO

why is it, when you go into important buildings (a hospital, university, the supreme court) written somewhere on the wall is some obscure quotation in latin. the fact that it's there tends to lend a great importance to it's meaning and we're all very impressed at the intellectualism of the establishment since it's written in latin, but therein lies the problem...if you've got something so important to tell me that you have it engraved in marble or placed on the presidential seal, then why is it in another language? and then, these little blurbs of inaccessable wisdom leak thier way into everyday conversation.

i was in my teens before i found out what e plurabus unum meant...veni, vidi, vici, anyone?...carpe diem, why is that on cigarettes?

yes, that's very enlightening...yes i love the fact the you speak latin...yes, i'm very impressed with your classical education...no, i didn't go to yale, harvard, or princeton...leonard, i went to leonard...it's in texas...by bonham...it's in fannin county...look i don't care if you don't know where it is, i'm lucky i can read, let alone type or do quadratic equations.

if you're going to say something profound, do us all the service of letting us understand.

have a nice day.

p.s.- before the voice of the people, the voice of God...the people's voice second only to the voice of God.
