Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss

"Where do you see yourself in ten years?"

i hate that question, it's not that i can't think of what to say, but i can never think of anything clever to say that would be appropriate.

i'm not sure my employer would like to hear me say, "firing your butt!" or my girlfriend wants to hear,"trying to explain that lipstick on my shirt." or my high school guidance counsler hear, "graduating."

Instead i find myself thinking, like peter griffin, "don't say doing your wife, don't say doing your wife, don't say doing your wife." And can never think of Mitch Hedbergs famous, "Celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of you ASKING ME THIS QUESTION!"

My dad, Richard G, Oden, sighs and says, "well, these days i see myself at 64 years old, bummer." paul mccartney didn't know what he was talking about. (he's alone at 64 by the way)

but the reason is that i have no idea where i'll be in ten minutes, let alone ten years. nor do i care. there's no sense in planning where you'll be in ten years because you don't know.

allow me to prove this mathematically. grab a pen and write down you're age, now subtract ten years. where did you think you'd be then? where you right? of course not, you where a freaking idiot! now think of where you'll be in ten more years, you'll be wrong, why? you're still a freaking idiot.

plan where you'll be next week, or the week after that and make it happen. it just seems more reasonable.

"goals are paramount," says Richard Oden whose only goal these days is to enjoy his retirement. the american dream.

have a nice day.
