Have you ever watched something and afterwards questioned whether or not what you just witnessed could've even happened? worse yet, when you describe it to someone they say, "that couldn't have happened and if it did, you're mean to laugh at it"

there are two things you shouldn't laugh at (apparently), one-the mentally challenged and two-the misfortunes of children. not when they're being cute or innocent, i mean when what they do results in them crying. that's when it's really funny.

one such incident happened tonight.

i'm at work, tonight in the studio recording a childrens' concert. this means the event is in another room and i'm mixing to tape while watching the event on a TV. and whilst i watched this poor 12yr girl, knees together, slinks up to and grabs her microphone and very nervously figits around with it. when suddenly i hear a loud POP! while hurriedly scanning the console for tell-tale signs of a "high impedence patch problem" i glance up to the TV and i see this terrified little girl on stage in front of 1,100 people as she looks down and realizes she has unnplugged her own microphone! i could actually see her world crash down on top of her.

but i have to hand it to her, she did what any good performer would do in her shoes...she tried to play it off. she holds the microphone in one hand and the cable in the other in such a way that no one in the audience or staff realized it was unplugged, until, that is, she tried to sing. that's right, she tried to sing her SOLO while holding the mic in one hand and the unplugged cable in the other. i was there, i saw it.

immediatly my radio explodes to life! "WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER MIC! SOMEONE GET UP THERE AND FIX IT!" "I THINK... IS IT UNPLUGGED? DIDN'T SOMEONE JUST SING INTO THAT?"

she finished her part, and walked away. the radio conversation between the four audio engineers for the next hour was at her expense.

i saw it, i laughed and i told others. i'm a jerk, i'm sure, but if you didn't laugh, you're stupid. but that little girl had more guts than i do, cause she effectively screwed up her bit and made everyone else THINK IT WAS OUR FAULT!!! but that's just the way it is.

if the service is bad-the pastor blames the music minister. the music minister blames the sound guy, and the sound guys says "it's not my fault y'all suck!"
